Brayton's Birthday

This past Saturday was cousin Brayton's 3rd birthday party at Brandon & Michelle's place. And I didn't get ONE foto of the birthday boy!! Georgia and I went out there for the BBQ and cake. Michelle made the cake and did an awesome job decorating it with a Transformers theme. We got him a Nerf Blaster gun that shoots ping pong balls. But I was mad Tyler wouldn't let me open it after we gave it to him. I LOVE putting kids toys together! he is such a party pooper sometimes! ah ha! Brayton would have wanted me to open it for him... :) Then Daddy joined us at the party (Ty works on Saturdays until 5) and we played Rock Band. I was good though, I didn't hog the mic this time. I shared. Here's Gigi in her little party outfit. Tyler had a paper due and it was getting late, but I was being irresponsible and kept putting off leaving. Here is Tyler and GK saying "We have had enough!". I don't know who's expression I love more!!

Halloween...

At least I haven't lapsed the next Holiday... :)

Georgia was a black kitty cat.

Our New President

So I am clicking around checking out the blog-0-sphere I'm noticing just about everyone has something about the election. Again, I will make an attempt to catch up. :) On November 4th Tyler and I with Georgia went to our polling place to vote for the 44th President. Tyler, GK, and I had our usual hour commute home from the East side of the Valley and we were hungry and tired and we just wanted to get in there mark up our ballots quick and get home. But as I grabbed the pen and went to mark my vote for President, it hit me. I wasn't just voting for the Democratic nominee because he was a democrat, I was voting for Barack Obama because I believed in him. I was voting for him because I wanted him to be our next President. I knew Arizona was going to go 'red', but I still wanted to vote and participate in the altering of our country. Come what may, it will be a different place, and I am very proud that we were apart of it.

even the title is a different color!

So I was on The McCarthy Family Happenings blog site published by my brother Mike and his wife Krista and I was thinking... you know? My blog site is pretty dull... I want a cute Blog site!! so I explored the vast add-ons and templates and skins... and this is what I've come up with. I love it! I found a bunch of other skins that I liked that I can't wait to use. As you can see I added a photo of GK from her recent photo shoot, too. I would love to do more, but I'm at work and I think this lunch hour has gone a little longer than usual...

smiles

We are really excited as Georgia isn't just smiling from GAS anymore! she is showing more emotion and reacting to things more now. This morning Tyler put her on our bed to change her diaper and I came in from the bathroom, and said a big happy, "Hello Georgia!" and she turned her head to me and started smiling and kicking her legs... I was suppose to be getting ready for work, but she was so awake and she was cooing and squealing, and I just couldn't pull myself away!! I couldn't help but compare her to the other babies at church yesterday, and man she is a calm baby! All the other kids were screaming, fussy, and crying. And then there was GK, just kicking back. I wonder if this is the calm before the storm. :) I just realized I didn't post any fotos from Halloween. I'll try and do that tonight.

The New M.A.S.H.

When I was in grade school and couldn't sleep, I used to turn on the little TV in my room. It seemed like after 11:00pm the only show that was ever on was M.A.S.H. At the age of 10 or 12 that show was sort of funny, but it was a little over my head. But I knew that it wouldn't be scary so I would tune in. I came to despise it.
So with a newborn, there are a lot of late nights/ early mornings. If you noticed on our "what we are watching list" I usually watch music videos. So late at night, the only alternatives are Paid Programming or "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". THIS, my friends, is the new M.A.S.H. This dumb show is on at all hours of the day. I will go so far as to say that at a certain time and place this show had its place? And seeing Will Smith in his acting debut is kinda cute. But that lasted for only one re-run.
I now can only dream of a re-run episode of M.A.S.H. REAL humor based on the issues of that day, smartly written... and with real actors! It incorporated a little history with entertainment, which I'm all about these days. I try in vain to find it on any late night line-up. But, to no avail.
Instead, I tune in to MTV and VH1. If a video comes on by Phil Collins, at least I now it won't be longer then 3 minutes...

progress of moving-

so... we still haven't "moved in" to our apartment yet. We did some painting today- finishing the living room accent wall and the dinning room nook. I don't think we are going to paint Georgia's room before we move in; which is fine, since GK (Georgia Kathleen) is still in our room anyway. Tyler and Dustin Bryan moved our dinning room set in last week and Tyler set that up today. :) And I packed up almost all of our clothes. But man, when we come home from work, it is feed the baby and feed ourselves... and go to bed. We are having the EQ coming Saturday night to help move the couches, the bed, and the bedroom furniture. I just don't know how we are going to have everything else ready to go by then...

little updates

So now starts the little mundane steps of developement that Tyler and I get excited about. enough to blog about them. I figure that they might be lame but in a few years... or in a few weeks I won't remember the little wonders that we are experiencing day to day.

Georgia clocks in at 8lbs 11 oz this week. She is focusing her eyes more. Tyler and I will be on one side of her and call her name or shake a rattle and watch her turn her head to the noise and breifly focus. It's so awesome when she looks into my eyes... even if it is just for a moment. We let her sleep the night, and she wakes us when she is hungry. THIS is great. she wakes up only once during the night, as Ty and I get up at 4:30 to feed her every morning before getting ready for work. Georgia is getting more hair however, it's growing in blonde. Her eyebrows are still blonde; they are filling in a little too. In the past few days we have noticed she has all these new eyelashes growing in! I'm really excited about that. She has had like 5 long lashes since she was born... it was like a switch turned on. All of them started growing in at the same time. She has also started flicking her tongue around. Well, that is about it for now. I'm sure there will be PLENTY more to come. :)

overloading Mommy

I guess Chiqui is done being intimidated by Georgia. She saw my empty lap and went for it.

Wehrwein grandkids- updated

here is a foto from last weekend... left to right Rennon is holding Georgia, Alora is holding her and Rennon's little brother Jarum, and Brayton is holding his little brother Trentin. At first I just propped Georgia up beside Rennon but then he saw Alora and Brayton holding babies... he said, "I want to hold her..." it was so cute! All the little cousins. So Tyler and I have pulled one of our classic moves. We checked out an apartment this past Friday and we got it! It actually is a ridiculous deal, so we had to move on it! It is 1067 square feet, 2 bedroom apartment for $640 a month. Normally this apartment would go for $900+ but it was "on sale" I guess you could say. We got the keys yesterday and have been scrambling around packing and sorting to move in. We weren't planning on moving out of my mom's place until around December, but we had to act on a deal like this. Georgia is doing great! she went to the doctor last Tuesday and she weighed in at 7lbs 15oz.

This week-

This week is a busy week. I have to go back to work for a day to get my vacation time freed up. (it was made available while I was out on leave) But then I'll be home the rest of the week because my mom is having her last chemo treatment on Wednesday and then Thursday Tyler is having his gall bladder taken out. It never stops, does it? Last Wednesday Georgia had an appointment with the doc and she has gained a pound in a week! she is now 6lbs 7oz. She is starting to fill out just a bit- but then we saw her cousin Trentin last night. he makes her look sooooo itty bitty! He was born July 29th and is already 14lbs! Granted, he was full term and...well... Michelle makes ginormous children! :) Here is a foto of our itty bitty nudey.

Georgia is here!!

August 27th at 10:36am Georgia Kathleen Wehrwein was born! She weighed in at 5lbs 6oz and measured 18 and 3/4 inches long. Pretty good size for a "late preterm baby" at 35 weeks.

more updates...

Dr. Elliot came and helped me make a plan for the next week or so. We decided NOT to do an amniocentesis this week (week 35) we want to keep little Georgia in here as long as possible. Up until today, every day I have a new PPA doc on call who disagrees or agrees with doing the amnio now. I am grateful that Dr. Elliot came in and laid it out for me. I asked him if the amnio would be up to tomorrow's doc and so on... he confirmed, no- he will put in my chart and that is that. I guess he is the one "in charge". Talking with him I do feel that keeping the baby "in" is the best for her, as long as I don't get really sick, and Dr. Elliot agrees. He also said I had a choice! You know you hear that you have a say in your health care, but I have just been doing what they tell me- they are doctors and know best, right? It was great that Dr. Elliot said I have a choice, that I could do the amnio this week or wait until 36 weeks to do it with pending delivery. He explained that if I deliver this week the only benefits would be to me and my preeclampsia comfort and not to the baby's. I thought how could I bare being that selfish so I could be home on my couch with Georgia being in the NICU. Elliot said if we wait until 36 weeks, we have a 90% chance of taking Georgia home with us, if we deliver now at 35 we have a 90% chance she will be in NICU. So it looks like another week on bed rest in the hospital! :) This is a small sacrifice to the health of our little baby. Of course we still have the looming "unless we have an emergency..." but I'm progressively getting worse at a "slow rate". So we are banking on me making it another week without me getting out of control. And that is why I have to be grateful I'm in the hospital so if and when anything gets worse, I'm in the right place. :)

My new due date?

They have finally, officially diagnosed me with preeclampsia. According to the doctors here, if I don't get more sick really fast, I will be induced in 9 days. At this point they are weighing how healthy the baby can be inside me vs how healthy the baby will be in the NICU. The longer I have preeclampsia and the more severe it becomes, the more deadly it can be to me and the baby. Preeclampsia (or Toxemia as it is also commonly known) is a progressive disease with the only cure being delivery. Have I already written about that? oh well, pregnancy, has totally jacked my memory! According to the doctors here, I will be 35 weeks tomorrow 08/23... so I will be delivering sometime next weekend- at 36 weeks. I'm bummed that I missed my baby shower at work today, and then tomorrow, is my baby shower for church and all my in-laws. My mom was here visiting me at the hospital today, and she even pitched stealing me for a few hours tomorrow for the shower... yeah, the nurses didn't go for it. Tyler and my Mom have been at home trying to do the prep work for the baby. I thought I'd have at least another few weeks to do that myself... but I am in the hospital watching TLC all day instead. ;) so they are setting up all the little things, car seat, changing station, washing baby clothes and blankies... I kinda wish I was able to do that... you know more nesting... but I don't' have a choice. And I am so grateful that they are able and willing to do that for me. Mom has her next chemo session this Tuesday, so I have to say, I'm trying to put her on as many little tasks as possible now, before she is out of commission. We are really hoping Georgia and I can hold out till next weekend, so my Mom will have more time to recover from Tuesday's session. I really want her to be here for the birth. But, we just have to see.

Hospital Time

I was admitted to the hospital on 8/18 and I'm going to be here for the long haul. We've been dreading the hospital bed rest... and here it is! I'm going to be in here until it's baby time. I'm preeclamptic so I could have the baby tomorrow or in 2 weeks. I just lay here and they take my blood pressure all day and monitor the baby. Baby Georgia looks great, it's my preeclampsia that is keeping me. If I remain "stable" then they will do an amnio (next week- or the week after?) to check on Georgia's lungs to see if they have matured enough to pop her out. Depends on when the Doctors want to do the procedure. Or... I could "get worse" and have her any day. It's also a bummer that I'm at Good Samaritan (the hospital that cares for high risk deliveries) because it's about 30 minutes from home.

8 months... actually 33 weeks

So I am now visiting the OBGyn twice a week because of my hypertension. Twice a week I get a non-stress test (NST) and once a week I have an AFI (Amniotic fluid Index?) when they check the amniotic fluid. This is my second week of it. Today I had just the NST and of course Georgia was NOT cooperating. They can usually get the readings they need in 20-30 minutes... but I was in there for 40. They have this little stick they push on your stomach that vibrates and it is suppose to get the baby going. Well, last week, she sleep right through the first buzz, so they had to buzz her a second time. Today, they buzzed her good and hard; she kicked and then fell right back asleep. My mom says it's just like me...ah ha. very funny. This past Sunday we went to Tyler's parents' house for dinner. Our sister-in-law Michelle gave birth to her second little boy, Trenton Blake, last Wednesday, so of course we had to take an updated foto. Check us out.

August!

So... it has been awhile since we have posted... I'm off of bed rest, back to work. I'm now 8 months along. Tyler is loving his new job and is planning to transfer schools from WIU to University of Phoenix. We kept thinking about how much time he would be spending away from home two nights isn't a lot... but we really like eachother. With him attending University of Phoenix, he can go back online to finish his degree. Tyler put together the stroller errr... I mean "travel system" the other night we got some great shots! Our cat Chiquimula helped out too.

School

Tyler started his Java Script class tonight... you will have to ask him about that. All I know is that he is really excited about it, and that he can now "write Java script"? But I'm happy for him! :) All of his classes from here on out are specific to his program and are at a physical campus, which means he attends one night a week for 4 hours for 9 weeks. He will start a new class every month. He will start doubling up courses in August. As all of the courses are IT related, we are hoping it won't be too stressful since he will enjoy these classes more then say Math or a Business class. I was suppose to start a Statistics class, but alas I am still on bed rest... can't go back to work or anything until my blood pressure balances out. (maybe next week?) I am taking a critical thinking course online, which of course is fine. I just log on in my lounge clothes on the couch and go to class for 2hrs one day a week. I'm half way though this class- so it will end the last week of July. And I think that will be it on classes for me until after Georgia is born.

7 months and growing...

As of last Tuesday, I'm 7 months along. How am I feeling? Uncomfortable... more and more each day. :) I am still on bed rest for my blood pressure, and have a follow up appointment tomorrow the 7th. Here is a foto of me at 7 months. Tyler and I had a nice cool 4th of July inside this year. We got my mom to make her fabulous potato salad and Ty marinated and baked some chicken. We went out into the cul-de-sac and watched the fireworks.
P.S. check out my normal hair!!

Last Sunday: 06/29th

Every Sunday we go to Tyler's parents' house for dinner. Tyler's step-sister, Aubrey, had a baby boy Jarum, on May 1st, his sister-in-law, Michelle, is due the first week of August (another little boy named Trenton). And then of course, Georgia, the end of September. We have had fun taking fotos of all three of the girls' progression. Here is a bonus foto of "Uncle Moose" with his nephews Brayton on the left and Rennon on the right. The kids start off with pants on at their grandparents house, but they always end up running around in their under-roos either because they are outside playing in the water or because they have an "accident".

Grandma McCarthy

Tyler and I took my mom out yesterday for her birthday, which is actually today the 29th. So we planned on taking her out to a movie and lunch. Tyler suggested Wall-e and Chilis. My mom had another idea. She wanted to see Get Smart & breakfast. "No problem, Mom. Whatever you want." :) We took her to Denny's, we needed to go somewhere else then Crackle Barrel we go there all the time. When we got to the theatre Get Smart wasn't playing, instead of Wall-e, Mom wanted to see WANTED! The rated R Angelina Jolie movie about assassins. The movie was exciting, had a lot of action... but it was pretty bloody and graphic. Tyler and I could not stop teasing her about how WE wanted to see Wall-e and she wanted to see a rated R movie!

This week so far...

Tyler is in his last week of training this week for his new position with the University of Phoenix. He will be working in the IT department, which he is getting his degree in. He is really excited about continuing to gain more experience in his field. I'm on bed rest now because of my blood pressure. My OBGYN put me on some meds for it, and we will check on my numbers on Thursday. If these meds work, then I can go back to work on Friday. If they don't work, then I'll stay on bed rest until they find some meds that will keep my blood pressure in a safe range.

A little scare

So, at our baby appointment last week, I was told to keep track of my blood pressure. Every time I go in to the OB, my readings are high, so they have me lay down on my left side and then retake it. The second reading is then acceptable. I took my BP Wednesday night, and my reading was super high. I took it again first thing when I woke up Thursday morning, even higher- and then again at work mid morning, it was the same. The triage nurse at my OB office told me to go to the maternity triage at Phoenix Good Samaritan right away. (Good Samaritan is where I will be delivering because it is the only hospital in the valley that is equipped for high risk pregnancies) So there I laid for 3hrs while they continuously checked my BP and took blood for testing. They came back and stated that I do not have pre-eclampsia...thank goodness...at least for now? With such high blood pressure already, I need to watch if my hands, feet, or face suddenly swells (among other warning signs). So they sent me home and to keep my appointment next week with my OB. I'm a little frustrated and nervous knowing that I am just sitting here with super high blood pressure. (for example 151/103). Tyler decided last night that I would go to work today IF my blood pressure was normal. It was 145/103 so I stayed home and had to lay down all day. But at least my blood pressure is better having stayed flat all day. We will keep you all posted!
